Studying at the university

Erfurt University was founded on the 1st October 1991. About 4,200 students study here in modern furnished and well lit rooms. Approx. 1000 new first-year university students are registered annually. Prospective customers can select the correct course from an offer of 11 different study courses. The offer ranges from scientific-technical, social and economics up to artistic academic subjects. Our university is characterised by short study periods, concentrated didactic programs and a large practice purchase. Final degree qualifications at Erfurt Unversity include the diploma or the Bachelors/Masters degrees.

Current courses

On the campus of the university you will find the language centre, which offers extensive language offers as further qualification possibilities beside the university library and the University Computer Centre.

Likewise on the campus is the refectory, which offers at least 5 different meals every day.

Structure of study and training meetings

Structure of studying

Diploma study courses are divided into a basic study and a main study period.

With the basic study the students obtain the most important basic knowledge for the main study. The basic study usually runs for 2-3 semesters with a diploma study course and ends with a pre-diploma and the Bachelor course with a preliminary test.

With the main study there are some compulsory subjects as well as selectable subjects for the different main focuses according to the main focus. The main study is completed with a thesis (diploma) or a bachelor's thesis.

The average period of study for diploma courses of studies is 8 semesters, for bachelors study courses it is 6 semesters and for masters courses about 4 semesters.

In Europe the Bachelor's degree is the first academic degree, which students at universities can attain as the conclusion of scientific training. It was introduced in the context of the Bologna process, whose goal is the standardization of the European final exams. A deeper understanding can then subsequently be achieved by studying a masters degree course.

Foreign students usually study somewhat longer than German students.

Training sessions

We differentiate between, among other things lectures, exercises and seminars.

In the lecture the lecturer explains the theory to a certain topic. These theories can be discussed in the seminars in smaller groups. In the exercise the theoretical material obtained in the lecture is deepened on the basis of practical tasks.
