Living and studying in Erfurt

Erfurt is the state capital of the German Federal state of Thuringia and is at the same time the largest city of Thuringia with approx. 200,000 inhabitants. The economy of the city is shaped by administration and the service industry.

The city of Erfurt is rich with objects of interest. The landmark of the city is the European-wide singular ensemble of cathedral and Severi church at the site of the cathedral.

In numerous museums you can find information out about the history, art, nature and technology of the city. The Erfurt horticulture exhibition, briefly “ega” is located in the western outskirts of the town of Erfurt. There you can find among other things the largest ornamental planted to flower patch in Europe and the largest playground in Thuringia.

A further impressive building is the Krämerbrücke, which is built of stone. The 120 m long building spans the Gera and is home to 32 houses, making the Krämerbrücke the longest completely built and inhabited bridge in Europe.

There are numerous sports facilities in Erfurt. Erfurt is a centre of ice sports. Particularly successfully are the Erfurt ice high-speed skaters, which always have been ranked among the world leaders. In particular Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann, Franziska Schenk, Sabine Völker und Daniela Anschütz-Thoms. In the year 2001 Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann Ice Arena was completed. In the ice arena among other things the German championships, World Cup Championships, as well as the European Championships in ice skating have taken place.

In addition, Erfurt is a centre for German cycle racing and possesses a cycle track in the Andreasried. At the Olympic Games in 2004 the Erfurt track cycling sportsman René Wolff won the gold medal.

Searching for a room or a flat

You have various possibilities of finding a room in Erfurt. The International Office of the UAS Erfurt offers support with the search for housing for exchange students. Please fill out the application form for a room in the student halls of residence and send it to the International Office of the UAS Erfurt ( application form ).

Alternatively you can look through the notices of the notice boards at the UAS Erfurt, housing advertisements in daily papers and at various Internet sites for a dwelling or a room in Erfurt.
