In order to bring about sustained improvements in the provision of electronic specialist information to German universities, research institutes and academic libraries, since 2004 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Association) has funded the acquisition of electronic journals, bibliographic, full-text and factual databases, as well as e-books, reference works and dictionaries in the form of national licences.
