project title:
Interdisciplinary cooperation in the example of the restoration project St. Johannes church in Saalfeld - Conservation of art and cultural asset - conflict potential in one of the utilization subject church
location/ object:
Saalfeld/ Johannes church
operating time: 2004 - 2006
contents and occasion of the intent:Restoration measures, as they represent the preservation of a complete window continuance including the protection glazing, mean an intervention in a building fabric, which came into the balance over many centuries. Not, the damage in the individual represents the problem on that occasion but the protection and stabilization the utilization of subject to continuance, under consideration of individual damaging promotive processes. The claim at historic areas is in the change on the basis of social changes.
The number of the visitors, which decide itself for reasons of the silence and the show value of the area or more attractively show and concert offers, is about a multiple one higher than this of the church service participant. However, this causes the conflict of the conservation of art and cultural asset and the intensive utilization of the church area to increasing extents.
A general solution of this problem is until now to be restricted the utilization in favor of the conservation of the art and cultural asset. For pieces, optimal conservation conditions are possible under application of climate cabinets.
The bigger however, the piece is (it is individual glass painting fields in the case of the windows with window heights of approximately 13 meters of height), the more complex the influential factors become and accordingly more uncertainly the solution suggestions until of the challenge of each church utilizations. To describe the conditions of the utilization in their multiple layers, needs from a complex measuring method as well as scientific analyses, about from it following a suitable planning of concerted measures, to produce one on top of the other.
With these main focus formulations also was the preservation and restoration of the windows sIII, sVII and nIX combined. Beside the extensive documentation, the examination of the late-medieval figures and the paintings from the nineteenth century formed another aspect regarding classification, the technology and the form of the damages.
The evaluation of the painting and coloured ness of the ornament carpets as well as their stylistic classification took place as well. The restoration measures were checked by climate data recording.
