Gleichstellungsarbeit an der FH Erfurt

At UAS Erfurt, equality plays a central role and is the responsibility of the President. UAS Erfurt can already point to a whole range of successes. At the same time,  in the context of society, UAS Erfurt is only halfway. The University is currently undergoing a complex transformation process that also affects the area of equality and can be described as "Changing roles - the structural buildup."

UAS Erfurt is meeting these manifold challenges and is actively working on modernising its self-awareness and updated structures. In its current Concept, dating from 2008, UAS Erfurt affirms its committment, under the heading of "Sustainability and Social Responsibility" to the following basic principles:

  • "The UAS Erfurt aim is that men and women have the same development possibilities and thus follow the principle of gender mainstreaming. It offers all members and other participants equal chances of development."
  • It actively supports the reconcilability of family and study, as well as of family and profession."

For University management, this specifically means the implementation of the following goals:

  • The phasing-out of disadvantages for women at all levels and in all departments
  • Realisation of  equal partaking of men and women in teaching and research
  • Implementation of a self-determined lifestyle for both sexes in the University, free of old-fashioned roles.

The Steering Committee sees itself as carrying particular responsibility and is actively and with committment working on anchoring gender mainstreaming and equality of the sexes as a strategy within the University. it must be clear to all participants involved in the decision-making process, and moreover to all members, is an ongoing cross-functional task. Any effects on the relationships between the sexes must be included in the planning process and thoroughly analysed, assessed and included in as many procedures and further decisions as possible. This will be a core task of the quality management system currently being developed. Active gender research, established at UAS Erfurt for many years, is indispensible here in generating ideas and initiatives.

To underline this agenda both structurally and organisationally, the Steering Committee has decided that the Um diesen Anspruch auch strukturell und organisatorisch zu unterstreichen hat das Präsidium beschlossen, das im Aufbau befindliche Equality Office currently being built up, and whose tasks will develop considerably further than those of the Equality Representatives and the Equality Advisory Council, will report directly to the President. Quality assurance is assigned directly to the Vice-President responsible for Quality and Excellence.

Reworking of the Support for Women plan was concluded in February 2009. This was confirmed by the Senate on 11.02.2009 and is thus mandatory. As well as this strongly formalised instrument, which also serves to supply the Federal State with structured data and has a highly formalised character, University management passed an Equality Concept  at the end of February 2009 which formulates this on the basis of differentiated analysis, conceptional goals and specific measures. The University will follow this equality concept for the coming three years.
