Topic: International aspects of entrepreneurship IV – Sustainable Growth Strategies for
the Food and Beverage Industries

After the good experiences of our four previous summer schools we invite students and lecturers of our partner-universities in Europe and overseas again and for the fifth time to come to Erfurt in late summer..
Our lecturers and students want to discuss with the participants international aspects of entrepreneurship with regard to sustainable growth strategies for the food and beverage industries. The two-week program also gives enough time for discussions and reflections and preparations for the group presentations on the given task
In the mornings we intend to offer sessions of lectures, case studies and workshops presented by our university lecturers and business partners in Erfurt. Topics are e.g. entrepreneurship-basics, regional economics and markets for young companies in the food and beverage sector in Thuringia, Germany, Europe and overseas, legal aspects and accounting/taxation of entrepreneurship, cultural varieties in drinking norms and eating, e-procurement etc.
Also our international partners will present their view on the topic in lectures and presentations. So during summer school 2009 we are keen to listen to 8 international lecturers from 7 universities in 6 countries.
For the afternoons and evenings there will be additional guided tours to the famous old town of Erfurt, other departments of our University like conservation & restoration or horticulture, the chance to visit various companies (e.g. the sweats and nougat producers VIBA “www.viba-sweets.de” and Grabower Süßer Wolf “www.grabower.com” our local tied house Waldkasino inErfurt www.waldkasino.de, (small Thuringian beer brewery).Later we will visit the logistics and service center for beverages Waldhoff www.waldhoff.de and for food Rewe logistic center.
Get together in students’ club Engelsburg on August 29, midterm-party on September 04, where all participants present their home countries and universities, including an international dinner and farewell celebration 0n September 11 will contribute to cross-cultural understanding.
With summer school we want to strengthen international co-operation and communication, especially between business students of our international partners and to give them an insight into our study program and research as well as project-work with German companies we are cooperating with.
With the opening lecture the participants get their task for this years’ summer school they will work on during the following two weeks. Before the farewell party is scheduled on Friday, September 11, the intercultural mixed groups will present their results, receive the certificates and get up to four ECTS (credits).
All classes will be held in English.
