About the forum:
During the URBIO 2010 conference in Nagoya several young scientists discussed the idea of an online discussion forum for the URBIO network to expand and intensify the exchange within the network. This forum may be used for scientific exchange, discussions and organisational matters.
It is considered that the forum we created would provide the following opportunities for URBIO members:
• To discuss a method, topic or new article etc. with more than two people without sending and reading a huge amount of e-mails or the complicated search for a date for online conferences.
• To pose questions beyond your own scientific field to experts of the topic and find solutions together; for example to facilitate collaboration between planners, landscape architects and ecologists.
• To provide a bridge between theory and practice in relation to the ‘science’ of urban biodiversity.
• To develop ideas for workshops, training sessions or similar meetings and organise them together.
• To foster social contact between the members, e.g. by visiting foreign countries, conferences etc.
The source code of the forum is a freeware source code named phpbb3. The server on which the forum runs and some technical assistance is kindly provided by Leslie P. Polzer from Stardawn Consulting. In the beginning there will be no charge for web space. The technical and social administration and moderation will be undertaken by URBIO members. If the forum is accepted by the URBIO community and the amount of data may increase, another solution will be found.
