URBIO at IALE2011

September 27th, 2011

URBIO held an advisory board meeting and had organized 2 sessions on the 8th IALE World Congress "Landscape Ecology for Sustainable Environment and Culture" in Beijing (People's Republic of China), August 18-23, 2011. Now you'll find the results of the advisory board meeting and the presentations of the URBIO session 1 and session 2 on our website.

You can view online and/or download the presentations as PDF of both sessions on our website. Though we are allowed to host the presentations, please be aware that all rights remain with their respective owners. If you have questions and or comments about the presentations, we encourage you to contact us or discuss them in our forum.

 

1st Announcement for 3rd URBIO Conference

The 3rd International conference of Urban Biodiversity and Design (URBIO 2012) is being organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and will be held in Mumbai, India from 8th to 12th October 2012.

Please find more information and a first schedule for submissions etc. in the 1st Announcement and at the conference website of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, which should be updated regularly from now on.

To our colleagues & friends in the Pacific region

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the URBIO board we would like to send our deepest condolences to our Japanese friends who were so badly affected by the 11th march 2011 earthquake, tsunami and serious problems resulting from damaged nuclear power plants. We also extend our deepest condolences to our friends in New Zealand who were hit by 2 earthquakes on 4th September 2010 and another on Tuesday, 22nd February 2011 and to our friends in the Pacific affected by earlier extensive floods in January and February.

The environmental impacts will be long lasting and we hope that we can find ways to help our friends in the recovery efforts. Please contact us with any suggestions on how our URBIO network can be used to support our friends.

 

Also the new URBIO newsletter has been sent today, featuring information on Global Partnership, upcoming conferences, new literature and a call for papers from an online journal.

URBIO Network email address changed

August 31st, 2010

The email address of the URBIO Network has been changed to "urbio[at]fh-erfurt.de", due to the fact that our old address "conference[at]urbio2008.com" was outdated since the second URBIO conference this year at last. In future, if you wish to contact the network please use only this email address.

Also, we placed two new pages - news archive and newsletter archive - where you can find past news and newsletters of the URBIO network.

 

Nagoya Declaration URBIO2010 successful distributed

July 1st, 2010

The "Nagoya Declaration - URBIO2010" was adopted by the participants at the General Assembly of URBIO2010 and has now been distributed to

- the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity,

- the Global Partnership on Cities and Biodiversity,

- the Aichi-Nagoya COP10 CBD Promotion Committee,

- the Round Table on COP10/MOP5,

- the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Government of Japan and

- the Ministry of the Environment Government of Japan.

All participants of URBIO2010 hope that the Declaration is widely distributed all over the world and used during the discussion to the City Biodiversity Summit 2010 and during COP10 in this year. All participants confirmed again that the URBIO network will periodically hold meetings linked with future COP meetings, in order to support further CBD initiatives on "Cities and Biodiversity".

 

URBIO network forum online

June 29th, 2010

During the URBIO 2010 conference in Nagoya several young scientists discussed the idea of an online discussion forum for the URBIO network to expand and intensify the exchange within the network. This forum may be used for scientific exchange, discussions and organisational matters. (read more…)

 

Nagoya Declaration URBIO 2010 adopted

May 26th, 2010

The Nagoya Declaration URBIO 2010 was adopted on 21st May, 2010. You can now download it from the URBIO 2010 website, from the URBIO network website or the website of the CBD. Please click on the small image to enlarge the picture of the final ceremony of the URBIO conference in Nagoya, were the declaration was adopted.

 

The Book "Urban Biodiversity and Design" is now available

April 21st, 2010

The book "Urban Biodiversity and Design", where the contributions to URBIO2008 are collected, is available now in the "Conservation Science and Practice Series" as No 7, published by Wiley-Blackwell.
