Applied research projects with a regional scope are affiliated to Institut Verkehr und Raum (IVR), the Transport and Spatial Planning Institute of Erfurt University of Applied Sciences. In the year 2007, the Professorship of Transport Economics and its research assistants have joined this multidisciplinary institution. The software laboratory "Transport Modelling", inaugurated in mid-2006, has become a central infrastructural asset. In October 2011 Dr. Heinitz was appointed as head of the institute.
Further research efforts focus on concepts of using constraint logic programming (CLP) as a foundation for next-generation transportation models with considerable application potential. The primary research goal is to substantiate, facilitate and thus enhance decision-making in the travel & transportation sector - i.e. for transport companies and state authorities of relevance.
