Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for students and staff

By joining Germany-wide Microsoft contract, the Thuringian universities are entitled to provide their members with Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus during the contract period. After registration, each student or employee will receive the latest version of the following programs for local download during the duration of the state contract with Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus.


  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive
  • Access, Publisher - only for Windows, not available for Macintosh

What do you need to do?

After successful registration you will receive a Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus subscription for local use on your private end-user devices.

Please note

  • You will enter into a usage agreement directly with Microsoft.
  • Use of the cloud solution "OneDrive" offered with Office 365 ProPlus to store data is entirely at your own risk.
  • If you have problems with the operation and installation of Office 365 ProPlus, please contact Microsoft. The University Computer Centre does not provide support in this regard.
  • In order to use Office 365 ProPlus, you need a Microsoft account.

    Please note: An existing private Microsoft account cannot be used for this purpose.

    To create your FH Microsoft account, first visit our site and log in with your university account.
    To successfully register, you will have to agree to your data being transferred to Microsoft.

  • Once you have registered with Microsoft, an email will automatically be sent to your FH Erfurt email address. The email will contain your user name (usually that of your FHE email address) and your initial password (temporary password) for your Office365 account. It can take 5 minutes for this email to be sent.

    Use the login data sent to you (user name = FHE email address, password = temporary password) to log in to the Microsoft Portal.

    In the next step you will be asked to change your password. Enter the initial password and a new password of your choice.

    Note: Please use a different password for the Microsoft account than the one you use for your university account!

  • If you have previously registered and now wish to reset your password, please visit our website.

    On the Microsoft site, you can use the "Forgot password?" function. This is only possible via our website.

  • Once you have changed your password, you can download Office by clicking the "install" button.

    Depending on whether your system supports 64-bit or not, you can choose between the 64-bit and 32-bit version of the Office package.

    When you have finished downloading, start the exe file you have downloaded and start installation.

    Click on "continue" ("weiter")in the welcome window and then agree to the Microsoft licence agreement.
    By giving your consent, you are obliged to comply with the terms of the licence and shall be accordingly liable for any infringements.

    You will then be asked if you wish to log in to allow functions such as document sharing. Here, click on "No thanks, maybe later" ("nein danke, vielleicht später").

    Now installation will begin. Meanwhile, a small PowerPoint presentation will appear, explaining the basic functions of Office 365.

    Once installation is complete, you still need to activate Office. To do so, start an application from the Office package (e.g. Word) and log in with the Microsoft account created above.

    Now you can use Microsoft Office normally on your PC.

FAQs Office 365 ProPlus

Here we've tried to provide a few answers to frequently asked questions.

  • You can download Office products on the Microsoft portal. To be able to log in there, you first need to have registered on our MS Office 365 website.

  • First of all, you haev to reigster on our MS Office 365 website. After that, you will receive an email with the login that you should use to register on the Microsoft Portal.

  • Your use of MS Office 365 ProPlus is linked to your enrolment or employment at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. This means that this licence can neither be used before startingyour studies/employment begins nor afterwards. At the end of your studies/employment, the software will enter read-only mode.

  • An Internet connection is essential for the installation and registration of Office. After that, you can use Office offline.

  • If we no longer possess information about your enrolment or employment, you will no longer be entitled to use MS Office 365 ProPlus.
    It is also possible that you have manually deactivated your account after registration. To fix this problem, open any Office program. Click on your user name in the upper right-hand corner, select log in and sign in again with your account data.

  • If you have forgotten your password, you have to distinguish between forgetting the password of your university account ("Hochschulaccount") or the password you use to log in to the Microsoft Portal.

    In the case of the former, please contact the Computer Centre to obtain a new password.
    You can reset the password of your Microsoft account by logging in on this page with your university account.
    Afterwards, you will be sent a newly generated password by email.

  • If you deactivate Office 365 ProPlus on a device via the Microsoft portal, you will be prompted to register again the next time you start the application, otherwise the products will only be of limited use, i.e. the documents will only run in read-only mode.

  • If you would like to uninstall Office 365 ProPlus from a device, you must first log in to the Microsoft Portal with your Microsoft user data (FHE email address and password).
    You will then see an overview of the Office 365 ProPlus installations you are using. You will find a "deactivate" link next to each installation.
    If you click on this link, your product will be deactivated on the respective device. Now you can remove Office from your device.
