Properties of materials and how these relate to the condition of the material are measured.

• Non-destructive materials testing - ultrasound/ ionizing radiation
• Notched impact toughness/ fracture test
• Metallography and the iron-carbon diagram
• Steel tensile test; strength properties
• Steel hardness testing
