Studying at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt

The University of Applied Sciences Erfurt was founded on 1st October 1991. About 4,600 students study here in modern and well-lit rooms. Approx. 1000 new first-year students enrol annually. Prospective students can choose from a selection of 14 different degree courses ranging from scientific and technical subjects, social sciences, business studies and artistic courses of study. Our university is characterized by compact degree programs, concentrated teaching and a high degree of practical relevance. Bachelor's and Master's degrees can be attained at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt.

Current courses

On the main campus of the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, you will find the library, the computer centre and the language centre, which offers a wide range of courses for students to acquire further language skills.

On campus there is also a refectory (the "Mensa"), which has at least 5 different meals on offer every day.

Course structure and lectures

Course structure

In Europe, the Bachelor's is the first degree which university students can attain upon completion of their academic studies. It was introduced as part of the Bologna process, whose goal was the standardization of the European degrees. It can be followed by a more in-depth Master's degree program.

International students generally need to study for a little longer than German students.

Lectures

We differentiate between lectures, tutorials and seminars.

In lectures, the lecturer explains the theory behind a certain topic. These theories can then be discussed in smaller groups in the seminars. In tutorials, the theoretical material taught in the lectures is developed in practical work.

Courses for refugees

The University of Applied Sciences Erfurt offers refugees the opportunity to attend lectures so that they can gain first impressions and experience of studying at a German university. If you are interested, we encourage you to get in touch with current students, and/or to attend a language course. You can find more detailed information here.
