Children's University
The University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, now in cooperation with the University of Erfurt and the Helios Hospital, has been running a Children's University since 2003. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 can attend especially designed lectures, workshops, seminars and excursions in the fields of medicine, technology and social and natural sciences, where the lecturers are happy to answer all their questions. Events such as "Thunder and lightning: understanding physics through experiments", "How does learning work?" or "Is there a soul?" aim to help children discover more about science in a fun way, while at the same time learning new things and experiencing university life.
The organizers of the Children's University Erfurt are supported in their activities by the Thuringian Ministry of Culture. The events count as lesson time and are therefore not considered as absence from school. This means that not only whole school classes can register, but also individual children who are interested in a particular topic.
