Information for mentors - 2020

Thank you for your interest in the mentoring scheme "STEM+ Mentoring for University, Job & Career". Below you will find information on who can participate in the program as a mentor, how you can benefit as a mentor and how to apply.

Who can be a mentor?

  • (prospective) Master's students who will be studying at the University of Applied Sciences until at least the summer semester 2020

  • female Bachelor's students who are in their 6th semester or more in the summer semester 2020 and wish to complete their Master's degree at the University of Applied Sciences - from the fields of architecture, applied computer science, civil engineering, forestry, building services engineering, energy technology and traffic and transport engineering

  • working women employed in architecture, computer science, civil engineering, forestry, building services engineering or traffic and transport in the Erfurt area.

How can I benefit as a mentor?

  • can pass on their knowledge and thus enhance their own counselling competence
  • reflect on their own academic studies, their career, their own decisions and actions
  • can, if they are still a student, take part in the accompanying workshops
  • obtain a certificate attesting to their work as a mentor
  • experience the "good feeling" of supporting others

How exactly does the mentoring scheme work?

  • You can find out more about the mentoring scheme here program schedule.
  • You can also see a rough schedule for this year here (as of November 2019; subject to change).

Who are the mentees?

Bachelor's students of architecture, applied computer science, civil engineering, forestry, building services engineering or traffic and transport engineering from the 2nd semester onwards

What is expected of a mentor?

  • You are keen to pass on your knowledge and experience
  • You are willing to meet the mentee for a personal consultation every 4-6 weeks. The meetings can focus on topics related to studying (e.g. questions and tips on work placements, examinations, papers, the course of the Bachelor's and Master's programs, etc.) or on discussing options in academic studies, career paths and providing an insight into your own everyday working life. This depends entirely on the interests of the mentee and the capacity of the mentor.
  • Participation in the opening and closing event is a prerequisite. In addition, there will be a preparatory workshop at the beginning of the program, in which the role and tasks of a mentor are discussed and the basics of counselling are taught.
  • you are not expected to be an expert in everything or be able to answer any question the mentee may have.

How can I register as a mentor?

With immediate effect, students and women working in the field can register as mentors for the next Mentoring Program 2020. Please send the corresponding form (Mentor from within the university or Mentor from the field) and, if possible, a photo of yourself to mint-mentoring@no - by 31 January 2020.

Following the selection and assignment process, you will be informed whether a mentee has been found for you. We look forward to your application!
