Technical cultural asset

It wasn't that long ago that the technical cultural asset was - with a few exceptions - an unwelcome part of collections and depots. As if that wasn't enough, when a presentation took place, it was always with a new coat of paint that was mostly far from the original and at the same time carefully covered the last trace of use.

Does the calculation of the time for “technical cultural property” basically begin in 1711 with the invention of the steam engine? In any case, this invention can be understood as the “mother of the technical cultural asset”.
The technical cultural asset includes not only the industrial monument with its machines and systems as well as the personal objects of use of the people who operate the machines and systems, but also vehicles of all kinds, systems for energy generation, mining and the food industry through to serially manufactured, technically shaped everyday objects. The list of everything that belongs under the roof of the technical cultural asset would probably fill an entire telephone book. The latter, however, will probably no longer exist in the near future.

The devices and systems are not infrequently also of a high design standard. Naturally, ferrous and non-ferrous metals are the main materials used in technical cultural goods, whether coated or uncoated. But the materials wood, glass, leather, textiles, stone, ceramics and plastics are also included.
This variety of materials is combined in this major in that the different major can be used in the tried and tested interdisciplinary / interdisciplinary collaboration.

An essential part of the course will be material science, manufacturing technology and the possibilities of preserving technical cultural assets. The perspective of the object processing will always be extended to the history of use. These industrial-historical and sociological aspects are inextricably linked with the technical cultural asset.
Here it is important to research object-related for use, non-use, overuse and secondary use and to bring these into the context of the manufacturer and the user.
If the object is processed at its original location, the question of treatment options in the context of the object's surroundings will always play an important role.
Particular attention is paid to the question of a possible restart, reactivation, which must be discussed again and again depending on the object and the ideas of the owner.
