Professional qualification / competence goals

Bachelor's degree (is currently not re-enrolled)

The bachelor's degree provides students with subject-specific knowledge and practical skills in the selected restoration specialist area with the aim of implementing and documenting existing treatment concepts in a critical examination of the restoration practice. The graduates master the basics of scientific investigation as well as the treatment of art and cultural-historical objects. They are able to solve simple problems in their restoration area independently and on their own responsibility. The course enables the graduate to work responsibly in the field of conservation and restoration and to work in a team. He / she is able to acquire knowledge independently and apply it in a problem-oriented manner.

After passing the bachelor's examination, the first professional qualification is awarded to the academic degree:

                      "Bachelor of Arts" (B.A.)

awarded.

After graduation, there are employment opportunities in restoration workshops in museums, monument preservation offices and church institutions as well as in freelance work.


Master Course

The master's graduate is able to plan, manage and implement restoration examinations and treatments on objects from at least two restoration-specific study areas with special consideration of economic aspects and preventive conservation.

The students learn to deal scientifically with the aesthetic, historical and technical aspects of art and cultural-historical objects in their complexity, to plan and carry out the necessary investigations and to create a scientifically sound treatment concept for their conservation and restoration as a result. You will be able to develop methodical and technological solutions of a complex nature on objects of two specializations.

The new major in Restoration Management enables students to plan, carry out and manage complex conservation and restoration tasks from an economic point of view. He / she is able to independently process complex knowledge from different specialist disciplines and to integrate it into their own professional field in a problem-oriented manner.

After passing the master’s examination, the student is awarded the academic degree:

                    "Master of Arts" (M.A.)

awarded.


After graduation, there are employment opportunities in restoration workshops in museums, monument preservation offices and church institutions. Graduates can work as employees or as freelance master restorers. The master’s graduate is open to a career in the civil service.
