School students

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – in short, STEM – are still subject areas and occupational fields which girls and young women take far less into consideration than boys do when choosing their studies and careers. The number of female applicants and first-year students in the technical degree programs at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt bear this out.

The University of Applied Sciences Erfurt has set itself the goal of significantly increasing the number of female applicants and first-year students in the coming years, particularly in the technical disciplines of civil engineering, building services engineering and traffic and transport, but also in the disciplines of applied computer science and forestry.

To this end, the Equal Opportunities Advisory Board regularly organises events and projects for female school students, supported by the Coordination Office and in close cooperation with the Thuringian Coordination Office for Science and Technology (Thüko).

Join-in experiments are intended to arouse the students' curiosity about technology and give them a first impression of everyday life in studying and research. In addition, it provides an opportunity to ask teachers and students about their own academic and professional background. Furthermore, the Student Advisory Service is there to supply information on the courses offered at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt.

The events are each tailored to a specific age group, starting with grade 7 and ending with final-year students.

School students and teachers who are interested in taking part can contact the Coordination Office for Equal Opportunities and Families.
