KI-Chatbot HAWKI
The AI chatbot HAWKI is an educational interface for staff with a university account, based on OpenAI’s API. The tool offers a purely text-based interface and predefined assistants/prompts. HAWKI was developed to enable staff to integrate artificial intelligence into their work processes and to provide a forum where new ways of working may emerge and an internal university discussion on the use of AI can take place. This service also aims to provide educational support in developing an understanding of how such a language model works and therefore offers guidance in various areas on effective prompts (text inputs).
New features from 10 June 2025:
Chat histories are stored on the server and are available when you log in to the service again. To this end, a user-specific passkey is generated upon the first login, which is used to encrypt the data so that it cannot be viewed by the administrator.
Group chats allow you to chat with other people. To do this, they must have logged in to HAWKI2 at least once. They can then be invited to the chat rooms via their personal email address. Additionally, you can ‘chat’ with the LLM within the chat.
Various LLMs can be selected. Currently, the OpenAI GPT-4o and OpenAI GPT-4o mini models are available. There are plans to offer the GWDG’s locally operated LLMs in future.
A step-by-step guide on the developers’ website provides some initial guidance on how to use it.
The service is currently only available to staff.
