Scientific laboratory
The department has a laboratory equipped with modern analysis technology with an area of approx. 150 m². Its conception was based on the teaching objective of training students as thoroughly as possible in all scientific sub-disciplines of restoration.
Main tasks
+ pigment analysis
+ binder analysis
+ characterization of historical and modern materials
+ technology testing
+ damage investigation
+ climate analysis
+ special photographic processes (UV fluorescence reflectography, infrared reflectography)
In addition to its main task as a training centre for students in the natural sciences, the laboratory is also a research and service facility within the discipline and the university as well as a partner of the monument offices, restoration associations, museum and church institutions, freelance restorers, etc.
