Quality assurance for research practice at FH Erfurt

Observance of and compliance with the principles of good research practice are elementary prerequisites for academic work and its recognition by the public and the research community.

A commission appointed by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), "Selbstkontrolle in der Wissenschaft" (Self-Control in Research), drew up proposals in this regard, which were then adopted by the DFG's General Assembly on 17 June 1998 as principles for safeguarding good research practice.

The convention of the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt in January 2007 confirmed the new "Guidelines for ensuring good research practice at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt" in January 2007.

These were assessed by the DFG as being compliant with the DFG recommendations.

According to § 8 (1) of the guidelines, an ombudsman must be appointed. Paragraph 2 states:

"The ombudsman shall generally provide advice on matters of good research practice and for those who inform him/her of suspected academic misconduct. Every member of the university has the right to have a personal consultation with the ombudsman at short notice. The ombudsman shall review the information in regard to its truthfulness and significance, possible motives and with respect to possibilities to dispel the allegations."

New DFG Code of Conduct "Guidelines to Ensure Good Research Practice”

On 1 August 2019, the Code of Conduct "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice" of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft came into force. It replaces the memorandum "Safeguarding Good Research Practice" with recommendations to the research organizations and members.

There is a transitional period for the implementation of the Code's guidelines for those higher education institutions and non-university research institutions that have already implemented the relevant regulations of the DFG memorandum "Safeguarding Good Research Practice" in a legally binding manner. This period begins on 1.8.2019 and ends on 31.7.2023.
